As they retreated through Portugal Napoleon’s soldiers left a trail of destruction and suffering, and the plight of the Portuguese people led to funds being raised in Britain to assist them.   A list of those who contributed and the amounts donated appears on pp. 5 - 16.   The work is a translation of Subscription for the Relief of the Unfortunate Suffers in Portugal . . .  London 1811, and p. (2) bears a notice a stating that the Prince Regent had ordered its translation.
