First edition of both works. Dalla Bella had been invited by Pombal from Italy to teach at the University of Coimbra following the latter's reforms of the institution. He describes methods for improving the cultivation of olive trees and production of olive oil in Portugal. Amongst other advice, he recommends picking the olives by hand, rather than shaking the tree, as the olives are thus of better quality, and he gives a diagram of a ladder for this purpose.
