First edition. One of the foremost economists of early 19th century Portugal, Ferreira Borges compiled the first Portuguese commercial code and was active in organizing commercial administration in Portugal. He was made a Councillor of State in 1823 but when the Constitution was abolished and an absolute monarchy declared he was obliged to flee to London. There he planned his Código Comercial, and published this book, one of the earliest of his many works in which he sets out the legislation in force in different countries regarding bills of exchange, essential for international commerce.
